Whether you like it or not, the new Facebook Timeline is being rolled out.
If you activate it now, you can make the adjustments to your Facebook account content so that what you want to be seen is visible and you can hide or delete that which you don’t.
In the video below, you will learn how to get access to your timeline using the instructions available at Business Insider’s blog. This step by step set of instructions needs a little extra info like, to do the first step of “Creating a Facebook App,” you need to go to developers area. Don’t worry you don’t really need to be a developer to do this. Simply use this link and follow the instructions above: https://developers.facebook.com/apps

The reason I recommend getting your timeline initiated now is because you don’t actually have to make it visible just yet. So you’ll have some time to discard items in your timeline you don’t want front and center in your account. The timeline is really making everyone evaluate what’s important to show the world.
Check Your Privacy Settings on Facebook
As I always say, the definition of social media is “public publishing platform.” So if you don’t want the whole world to know, then don’t place it on social media. I don’t care what your privacy settings are. If the word “media” is in there, that means your stuff is accessible.
That being said, you’ll want to review and adjust your privacy settings according to what you really want to share most readily. To review your privacy settings simply click the down arrow in the upper right corner of any Facebook URL you’re on. Select Privacy Settings and go through everything in there.
Your Timeline Cover Image
The most prominent feature on your timeline that you’ll want to think about carefully is the cover image. You can be as creative as you want. I don’t recommend being overtly commercial on your personal timeline. When the fan page timeline comes out, you’ll have lots of opportunities to promote your brand there.
The timeline image is approximately 840 pixels wide by 310 pixels long. You have a nice opportunity to showcase something unique, special or creative about you. Please share your ideas and links to your cover images below. We’d love to see what you come up with.
Enjoy your new timeline.
